I say, old fellow, the hunt is on! Come, Watson, we have Wizards to battle...

The last gingertart fic to be posted was in the Snarry Games 2008 Getting Familiar. The muse then went AWOL. Now she's back, although God only knows where she got the inspiration for this. It was an experience to write, I have rarely had such fun in my life.

Team: Snitch
Genre(s): Fandom Crossovers and Literary and/or Historical
Prompt(s): Code of Honour
Rating/Warnings/Kinks: PG; None
Word Count: ~ 56,500
Summary: From the private journal of John. H. Watson MD; not intended for publication. Being an account of the strange case of the Fourth Deathly Hallow; in which Dr John H. Watson and Mr Sherlock Holmes save a life, discover the true secret of Professor Moriarty, unravel a time loop or two, encounter a femme fatale, imbibe potions, break into and out of a wizarding mansion, hide in a male brothel, go shopping, track down a magical artefact, almost attend a ritual sacrifice, fail to be Obliviated and totally ignore the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy of 1692, all in the company of a lank-haired, irascible but secretly besotted schoolmaster, a bemused aristocrat and an increasingly perceptive and enamoured young hero.

The Fourth Deathly Hallow is now up at the Snarry Games 2009. Beware, this plot-bunny is a big bastard. It had me by the throat a couple of times and it took the combined efforts of LeelaCat, Lesyeuxverts, Klynie and WhiteCotton to beat it (and my stray punctuation) into submission.  Thank you, ladies, your help was invaluable.

Just want to tell you I plan to read this tomorrow. I am VERY unhappy I have plans this evening as I have no doubt I'd rather spend time with you and the boys. :)

OMFG, I wish you were on my team!!!

you have answered my prayer: with all this crossover nonsense, wont someone PLEASE write a Holmes crossover?? (it'd have to be someone as well aged as myself, *g*)

I am salivating over this one.

*wipes up the drool*

I've read a few fusions in which Snape was sort-of Holmes to Lupin or Potter as Watson but I haven't read a true cross-over, so I decided to do something about it. Rickman/Snape plus Brett/Holmes would probably be too much hotness for my old heart to tolerate but I'd do my best....

Excellent; you stayed in Watson-voice amazingly well.
Love how Draco adjusted to using at least one Muggle tool, and when it got to where Watson didn't flinch at almost anything magical.

I just finished reading this story after seeing it rec'd on Burgin and Burkes. The story is bloody brilliant, and one of only a few that I actually wanted to save for future reading.

Totally made my day!!!

What a wonderful story! I love Holmes from 13 years old, and also I am a big snarry shipper. This is the best cross-over fic I have ever read!
I am just wondering that can I translate your fanfiction into Chinese so that much more Chinese snarry shippers can share your perfect story? I will post it in a Chinese snarry forum, and promise that put your name, original link and your permission at the beginning. What is more, if you want, I can also translate some reviews for you. I think it would be interisting for you to read ppl's reviews from different country.

Cheers

Sarah

Wanted to leave a comment here, since I wasn't sure you'd get one left at the Games post.

That was quite simply amazing. I loved the voice and the detail you used. I laughed a great deal, and I dearly love the idea of Moriarty as a Wizarding mastermind as well. The idea of making this sort of thing go in cycles -- Muggle supporting dark lord leading to a rise in blood prejudice and then a move to the reverse -- was inspired. Also, thank you for noting that gun can, in fact, beat wand.

Thank you very much for your lovely comment! I'm glad that you enjoyed it. I've always thought that magic would only be effective against a bullet if you actually saw the bullet coming, or else invested vast amounts of magic in full-time shields. Really I just wanted Draco to use a gun. Seemed like poetic justice!

Just let you know that I begin to translate ur fic, and post it on my blog. Here is the link: http://sdspage.blogbus.com/. In order to do a better job, I did some researches about Holmes, including reading orignal works both in English and Chinese and watching TV dramas made by BBC. When I finish all the translation, I will post it to a Chinese snarry forum. If you need, I can also translate some reviews into English and send a copy to you.

BTW, can I translate "Being Snape" into Chinese? I read it in WIP and love it very much~

Best wishes

Sarah

Hi Sarah

Thank you very much, I'd love to see what Chinese readers think of the fic.

You are very welcome to translate 'Being Snape' as well!

Kind regards

gingertart
