Well, what does one do, when staying on a Welsh mountain in the rain, sleet, hail and snow? When one's writing mojo has broken? (Moel Hebog in the snow is shown below, just to set the mood.)

Isn't he cute? His wand is a twig from a sessile oak, Quercus petraea, and possibly has a Welsh dragon heartstring core. I did ask him but he told me to mind my own business and demanded to know when I was going to knit him a companion, for Merlin's sake. Maybe I should make him his very own Remus Lupin. Thnape with a Lucius, Harry or Albus would be just too volatile a mixture, I'd probably find stuffing and bits of wool all over the house. |

Well, that's a bugger, isn't it? My pooter has been very sick. Mr Tart offered to fix it for me and he did, but only wiping the entire hard drive.
I've lost every email address of everyone I've ever communicated with.
I've lost that big list of links to excellent fics that I was going to update my fics list with.
I've lost my photos, my artses and my fics. I did archive a lot of stuff to a memory stick and a CD but a dog ate them.

Hello, flist. *hugs*
Sorry I haven't been around much, what with a succession of canine disasters, holiday, work going batshit insane and general RL distractions. I haven't even entered any fests this year. I was tempted by Snarry Holidays, Smut Swap and above all, Snarry Games but the risk of letting people down was too high, and I don't need any more stress.
In order to cheer myself up, I went and booked a puppy for next year. A curly coated retriever like this (except a female version.) I must be mad but yay! I can't wait till next spring!.

She is lying curled up in her bed beside me, her nose tucked under her front paws, at peace. Her soft brown eyes are closed and they will never open again. My little gingertart was put to sleep this evening at 18.40. Tomorrow, we will bury her in the spinney beside her beloved Captain Sensible. Goodbye, my sweet little dog. You were much loved and we already miss you terribly. When you buy a pet, you gain their life, but you also buy their death. |

| My 100 books |

The Big Read thinks the average adult has only read six of the top 100 books they listed. Well, that might have been because their selection is a little odd, but so is my own personal 100 list. It includes a few of the original list. I didn't necessarily like all these books (the ones I truly hated are struck out) and they are in no particular order. The list include some clunkers but what the hell, they made an impression on me even if they are flawed in some way. This is my list, so sue me! (PS Can anyone tell me why 'Dracula' was on the original list yet not 'Frankenstein'?) No doubt it is obvious where my interests lie. Oh yes, and some books on this list aren't politically correct by any means and some are now almost unobtainable. Remember that I'm old....

Can someone tell me how to upload a pic onto ij? Other people seem to be able to do it, but I can't. I have to load it to photobucket via LiveJournal and then link to it, I can't think of another way to do it. Or do I have to buy a paid account to upload pics? *ponders*  |

Yesterday, the postman delivered a box with a USA postmark, containing a gift for me - an Altered Book of my fic 'Echoes', all carefully wrapped in bubblewrap. Included were four little bottles of the perfumes mentioned in the book - 'Lily', 'Rain', 'Seeker' and 'Green Eyes'. What a delightful gift! (Oh yes, and I'll get points for taking my lunch to work in the Wal-mart carrier bag. Not quite as many as my boss gets for her Macy's paper sack, but still... ;-D )
And, talking of gifts, the winning team (by a very narrow margin) in the snarry_games had a real blast. Our team comm was lively, supportive, hilarious and creative, and the leading light in this blaze of dragon-fire was our beloved Capitan, joanwilder aka Raewhit. *kiss* So we made her a little comm all of her own, to say 'thank you', and here it is - thanks_capitan. Go see the shiny ficlets and artses! (I drew an illustration for klynie1's ficlet, of Snape and Potter reading Shakespeare. Ahem. Men in tights....) |

There are some lovely fics over there, with not many comments. I shall add some of the best to my mega list of fic recs but I have to catch up with the reading first. It's a tough job but someone has to do it... |

Hello flist. No doubt you are, like me, devouring the snarry_games fics. Well, here's yet another snarry, this one from hds_beltane over on lj. It is terrific. Go here for Rathmullan Pier and enjoy, then tell the author how good it is. The beltane fics don't seem to be getting many comments, I think everyone must be ficced-out by the snarry games and hd world cup. Which is a shame, because there is some good stuff over there! |

There are so many fests going on at the moment that it is hard to know what to read next. Can I suggest this fic? Not just because it was for me, but because it is clever, well-written, unusual and altogether excellent. It is Snarry, and both Harry and Snape are wonderfully true to their characters, Snape has a remarkable new career and Harry makes a sacrifice and gains something wonderful. Go and read 'Kestrel' in hds_beltane over on lj and tell the author what a bloody good story they have written. You won't regret it! |

The blood test results were better than expected, so she is now on 2 drugs in an attempt to regulate her heart and improve her circulation. She has also decided that she will eat roast chicken and, for some reason, Swedish crisp bread rolls, as long as she thinks that she is being fed them from Mr Tart's dinner when I'm not looking. *sigh*
The other dogs are eyeing her with a degree of envious suspicion. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we may have her for a bit longer than we thought. No matter what happens, the previous dog that I lost with heart failure, died before he was 7 and the gingertart will be 11 in August, so she has at least had a lot longer than he did. |

Warning - contains angst and potential death of a major character.
My little gingertart is my 6th hunt-point-retrieve gundog but my first Hungarian Vizsla. She is a sweet-natured, friendly, quiet little dog who wants to please. She has been unwell recently, hasn't wanted to eat and is very subdued and tired, so I took her to the vet this evening. It is probably typical of her, to have not given any indication until almost the end, that she has advanced heart failure.
Tomorrow, I will hear from the vet about the results of the blood tests, and whether we can give her drug treatments to give her a few more weeks or months of reasonable quality of life, or whether her body is going into shut-down mode.
